Unai Emery is hoping that Lucas Torreira’s injury is not too serious after he picked up a knee problem in Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Vorskla in the Europa League on Thursday night.
The Uruguay international made his first start of the new season for the north London side on Thursday night as he helped the Gunners to kick off their European campaign with three points.
Torreira has been made to wait for his first-team opportunities this term after having arrived at The Emirates from Sampdoria in the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old has only featured as a substitute in Arsenal’s first five Premier League games, but he played from the start in the Europa League on Thursday.
However, he was forced off in the 58th minute at The Emirates on Thursday after picking up an apparent knee injury.
And Emery delivered the latest update on Torreira’s situation after the game.
Speaking at his post-match news conference at The Emirates, Emery said: “Each match we play, I am responsible for the group and for Torreira also, today I think it is better [for Lucas] to leave the match.
“I hope that tomorrow and Saturday, he will be OK for Sunday.”
Arsenal are now preparing for their home clash against Everton on Sunday as they look to try and make it four wins in a row in the Premier League.
The north London side are aiming to try and break back into the top four this season after having finished sixth and without a trophy under Arsene Wenger last term.
