Piers Morgan has taken to social media to label Arsenal a “shambles” after the Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton at Hove Albion at The Emirates on Sunday.
The result dealt a near fatal blow to Arsenal’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League via a top-four finish.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s penalty in the first half handed the home side the lead, but Brighton levelled in the 61st minute when Glenn Murray dispatched his penalty.
The draw leaves Arsenal three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham heading into the final round of games, with Spurs boasting a superior goal-difference by eight goals.
Celebrity Arsenal fan and Daily Mirror editor Morgan has never been shy about voicing his opinion about the Gunners on social media, and Sunday was no different.
After the final whistle, Morgan tweeted: “Shambles. #arsenal.”
In a separate tweet, Morgan then added: “The good news is that we’ve got our Arsenal back. The bad news is that it’s the Arsenal from last season. #afc.”
Meanwhile, former Chelsea FC striker Chris Sutton labelled the result as a “massive disappointment” for the north London side.
Speaking during BBC Radio 5 live‘s coverage of the game, Sutton said: “Arsenal had it in their hands and they have fluffed their lines spectacularly.
“There was not enough urgency, they were complacent and played Brighton who were in dreadful form coming into this game,
“It’s a massive disappointment. You can’t make up this day, with United drawing at Huddersfield.”
And Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen appeared to react the result after the final whistle, by writing on Twitter: “I’ll take that.”
Arsenal will still hope to qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League this season.
They will travel to Valencia for the return leg of their semi-final clash on Thursday night having won the first leg 3-1 last week.
