Juan Mata has sent a message to Manchester United’s summer transfer targets that being a player for the club is still “something very special” after the Spanish midfielder signed a new contract earlier this week.
The Spain international has committed his immediate future to the Old Trafford side after Mata signed a new two-year contract that will run until 2021.
The 31-year-old will have the option to extend to the deal by an additional year at the end of the 2020-21 season.
Mata struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in the Manchester United team under both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last term.
However, the former Chelsea FC midfielder made some valuable contributions when he did feature in the Manchester United team.
He scored three times and made two assists in 22 appearances in the Premier League, as well as netting one goal in the Champions League and the FA Cup last term.
Mata took to Instagram to send a message to any players considering a move to Manchester United this summer after the Spanish star put pen to paper on his new deal.
Mata wrote on his Instagram page: “Because we are going through difficult times, it is of the greatest importance to me to extend my commitment to @manchesterunited.
“It is also the right time for me to say loud and clear that the feeling of being a Manchester United player is something very special. Unique.
“I am really proud and excited to sign a new contract, and will keep trying my best to help bring the club back to where it belongs. #MUFC”
Mata has won the FA Cup, the Europa League and the League Cup since his move to Manchester United in the 2013 January transfer window.
