Paul Merson is backing Liverpool FC to edge past Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League clash at Anfield on Sunday evening.
The Reds will start in the weekend in top spot in the Premier League table thanks to their 2-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage in their last fixture before the international break.
Liverpool FC have a two-point advantage over Manchester City but the defending Premier League champions have played one game less than Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The 18-time English champions could find themselves a point behind the Citizens at kick-off time at Anfield on Sunday given that Manchester City take on Fulham over 24 hours earlier.
Liverpool FC haven’t lost a Premier League game at Anfield in their last 36 outings, underlining the size of the task face Tottenham.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have lost three of their last four Premier League games following losses to Burnley, Chelsea FC and Southampton over the past month or so.
And Sky Sports pundit Merson is backing Liverpool FC to keep their title bid on track with a narrow 2-1 victory over Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday evening.
“The pressure is going to be on Liverpool, draws are no good with Manchester City in front,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“It’s going to be a tight, entertaining game with Liverpool needing to win adding another layer – if Liverpool are drawing with 20 minutes to go they have to go for it. But I think they will get the job done, cranking up the pressure on Spurs in the race for the top four.”
Liverpool FC have only lost one Premier League game this season following a 2-1 defeat by defending champions Manchester City at The Etihad back in January.
