Michael Owen is backing Liverpool FC to claim a comfortable victory in front of their home fans when they take on Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Reds head into the game looking to pick up their first Champions League points of the season after they suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss to Napoli away from home last time out.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are aiming to defend their Champions League title after having lifted the prestigious trophy last season under the German coach.
This is the clubs’ first meeting, and Liverpool FC’s first clash against an Austrian club for more than 15 years. Salzburg, meanwhile, have never beaten English opposition.
And former Liverpool FC star Owen is tipping the Reds to claim all three points with a comfortable victory at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “Liverpool maintained their perfect domestic record at Bramall Lane at the weekend but, having lost at Napoli on Matchday One, the holders need to beat Salzburg at Anfield to get their Champions League defence back on track.
“The Reds are unbeaten in their last 22 home European ties and have not conceded in the last five of those games.
“The Austrians can score goals and put six past Genk on Matchday One, but I hope to see another successful European Anfield night for Jurgen Klopp’s side.”
The Reds have won their last five home matches in the Champions League group stage, scoring 18 goals in the process.
They head into Wednesday night’s clash on the back of their 1-0 win over Sheffield United at the weekend as they made it seven victories from seven in the Premier League this season.
