Manchester United have ruled out a move to sign Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer, according to reports in the British media.
Sky Sports News is reporting that the Red Devils will not be making a move to try and bring the 19-year-old to Old Trafford this summer, contrary to reports.
According to the same story, Manchester United have now withdrawn their interest in the highly-rated young defender because they believe that he is set to join FC Barcelona this summer.
Manchester United are thought to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first full campaign in charge.
With the Red Devils defence having come under fire this season, it was no surprise to see Manchester United linked with a move to sign the likes of De Ligt.
However, they will have to look elsewhere if they want to strengthen their defence this summer, if the report is to be believed.
Manchester United ended up in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy after Solskjaer was brought in as Jose Mourinho’s successor at Old Trafford back in December.
