Andy Cole has backed Manchester United’s decision to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their new manager on a permanent basis.
The Norwegian has been earning lots of praise for the impact he has had at Old Trafford since he was brought in as the Red Devils’ interim boss following the sacking of Jose Mourinho back in December.
Manchester United have enjoyed a strong run of form to leave them in fifth place in the Premier League table table as they look to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Solskajer also guided Manchester United through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League thanks to their comeback victory over Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month.
Solskjaer was officially appointed as the club’s new manager on a three-year contract on Thursday morning.
And speaking to Sky Sports before the news of the appointment, Cole said: “I would give him the job.
“When he came to the club I could see why they were doing it, but we’ve got to be all brutally honest – I don’t think anyone could have sat here and said he would do as well as he has.
“He has gone in, he has galvanised the club, they’ve got results at the right time.”
Manchester United are looking to return to winning ways when they host Watford at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils suffered a disappointing defeat by Wolves last time out as they were knocked out of the FA Cup.
Manchester United are currently two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, who host Newcastle United in the Premier League on Monday night.
