Juan Mata chose to single out Daniel James for special praise following his performance in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at Southampton on Saturday.
The midfielder has been settling in well to life at Old Trafford since his move to the club from Swansea City in the summer transfer window, and he fired the home side into the lead at St Mary’s with a brilliant finish into the top corner.
James was named as the man of the match on Saturday, despite Jannik Vestergaard’s header in the 58th minute earning a point for the home side.
And Mata says that he has been very impressed by what he has seen from James in a Manchester United shirt so far this season.
Speaking in an interview with Manchester United’s website, Mata said: “[It was a] very good goal, a fantastic finish. He’s a very hard-working player.
“He gave us a lot on the wing and even in the second half when everyone was a bit tired, he was still sprinting and giving very dangerous crosses.
“[I’m] very happy for him and hopefully he can do it many more times.”
Manchester United will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Leicester City in front of their home fans on Saturday 14 September.
The Red Devils have only won one of their opening four Premier League games, to leave them with five points from a possible 12 in the Premier League.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be aiming to help the Red Devils break back into the top four this season after they finished sixth last term.
