Jose Mourinho has warned his Manchester United team that they now must focus on performing well against Valencia and Juventus after they kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 win at Young Boys.
The Red Devils sealed a comfortable win in Switzerland as two goals from Paul Pogba and one from Anthony Martial wrapped up the three points in their Champions League group opener on Wednesday night.
Mourinho will be hoping to steer Manchester United through to the latter stages of Europe’s elite club competition as they look to try and challenge for the Champions League title this season.
Their next games in the Champions League are back to back home clashes against Valencia and Juventus, and Mourinho has talked up the importance of the Red Devils getting all three points from both of those games to give themselves the best shot of reaching the last 16.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Wednesday night, Mourinho said: “Job done. Not phenomenal but good enough. They were intense, compact and had self esteem.
“Then after the first goal the game was under control. We tried to score the goals that gave us the stability for the second half.
“It is important for us to win because probably every team is going to get six points against Young Boys.
“Now we have two important matches against Valencia and Juventus. They are very good opponents.”
Manchester United will now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their home clash against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils have won their last two games in the top flight and they will be expecting to take all three points when they host Wolves this weekend.
