Jose Mourinho singled Paul Pogba out for special praise after the midfielder scored twice in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The French midfielder ended up being the star of the show as he helped to inspire the Red Devils to a comfortable victory in Switzerland in their Champions League group opener.
Anthony Martial netted the other goal for the Red Devils as they kicked off their group stage campaign by getting the three points away from home.
Pogba’s performances have been under scrutiny in recent months, with the midfielder having been largely criticised for failing to produce consistent displays in a Manchester United shirt.
However, Red Devils boss Mourinho was clearly delighted by what he saw from Pogba as he helped Manchester United to claim all three points on Wednesday night.
Speaking at his post-match news conference about Pogba’s display, Mourinho said: “He felt tired in the last part of the game but it was a good performance.
“Solid, class and gave the team the pace we needed at times. He controlled the tempo and of course it was a very good goal.
“The penalty showed personality too as sometimes when you miss one you have doubts but none for him.”
Manchester United will now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their home clash against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils are looking to make it three wins in a row in the Premier League as they bid to try and climb the table and establish themselves as one of the main contenders for the title.
