Jamie Carragher lavished praise on Mohamed Salah after his sublime long-range strike helped to fire Liverpool FC to a 2-0 win over Chelsea FC.
Liverpool FC were under pressure to get a result after Manchester City moved back to the top of the Premier League table thanks to their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace earlier in the day.
After a goalless first half, Sadio Mane headed Liverpool FC into the lead in the 51st minute when he connected with Jordan Henderson’s dinked cross.
Salah then produced a moment of magic when he first an incredible right-footed shot into the top-left corner from 35 yards.
The win was a vital one for Liverpool FC and it left them two points clear of Manchester City, who have played a game less, in the race for the title with four fixtures left to play.
And Liverpool FC legend Carragher was full of praise for Salah after he netted the Reds’ second goal of the afternoon.
Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Carragher said: “That’s an absolute rocket.
“It’s reminiscent of a goal Robbie Fowler scored years ago against Aston Villa.
“The goalkeeper doesn’t even smell it.”
He added: “It’s one of the goals of the season.”
Former Chelsea FC winger Pat Nevin was equally impressed.
“Wow, what a goal, that’s one of the best goals I’ve seen,” Nevin told BBC Radio 5 live. “That was Salah absolutely at his very, very best, what a hit!
If you close your eyes and think of the perfect Salah goal, that was it.
Liverpool FC will now switch their attentions back towards Champions League affairs and their trip to FC Porto in the second leg of their quarter-final tie on Wednesday night. The Reds won the first leg 2-0 at Anfield last week.
