James Milner has heaped praise on Liverpool FC midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum after the Dutch star scored in a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds made the long trip to the English capital as the Merseyside outfit looked to maintain their perfect start to the new Premier League campaign.
Wijnaldum scored his first away goal in a 4-2 loss to AS Roma in the Champions League semi-finals in Rome back in May to help Jurgen Klopp’s mean reach the Kiev showpiece.
The 27-year-old netted his first Premier League goal on the road since his move to English football at Wembley in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Wijnaldum’s header broke the deadlock before Roberto Firmino doubled the visitors’ advantage before Erik Lamela’s consolation goal in stoppage time at Wembley.
Liverpool FC vice captain Milner heaped praise on Wijnaldum for his performance in their fifth Premier League win of the season.
Milner told the club’s website: “He’s [Wijnaldum] a goalscorer, he’s shown that before and he’s pretty good with his head so it was nice for him to score and that’s what we need as well.
“Obviously we had a lot of goals from the front boys [last season] and I’m sure we will again this year, but it’s important that we try to take as much pressure off them as we can and contribute with goals all over the field.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth spot in the Premier League table last term to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League.
The Reds signed four players in the 2018 summer transfer window to add vital depth to Klopp’s squad ahead of a potential title challenge.
