A BRITISH man is missing after the boat he was in overturned on a Portuguese dam.
Divers employed by the local fire service are searching for him after he disappeared during the boating accident at Santa Clara Dam near the city of Ourique, just over an hour’s drive north of the Algarve resort of Portimao.
The alarm was raised just before 5pm local time today. He has been described as a 29-year-old Brit.
Local reports said the man was one of three Brits in the boat that overturned on the dam.
Once the largest artificial lake in the country and a popular destination for fishing enthusiasts as well as fans of water sports.
The other two men reportedly made it to dry land unharmed but the missing man never reappeared.
It is not yet clear why it overturned and whether the Brits were holidaymakers or expats and what they were doing on the lake.
The name of the missing man has not been released by authorities.
Police are also believed to be taking part in the search operation.
