Garth Crooks has lavished yet more praise on Joe Gomez following his strong start to the new season with Liverpool FC.
The young defender has been a regular fixture in the first team at Liverpool FC this season under Jurgen Klopp and he earned lots of praise for his mature performances last term as well.
The 21-year-old England international has started all five of Liverpool FC’s Premier League games so far this season to help the Reds to challenge for the title.
Liverpool FC have made a 100 per cent start to the new campaign and they are currently joint top of the table along with Chelsea FC.
And Crooks feels that Gomez deserves special praise for his solid performances for Liverpool FC so far this season.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Crooks said: “The tackle by Joe Gomez on Lucas Moura in the second half of Liverpool’s win at Tottenham would have stopped a mail train.
“I said two weeks ago, after Liverpool’s impressive victory at Leicester, that this kid was the best defender I’ve seen in years.
“In fact I said something far more profound than that but I’m not going to repeat it for fear of jinxing the lad.”
Gomez will be hoping to feature for Liverpool FC in their Champions League group stage opener on Tuesday night when they host Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield.
The Reds are aiming to go one step further in Europe’s elite club competition this term after they finished as runners-up last season following a defeat by Real Madrid in the final back in May.
