Frank Lampard has revealed that N’Golo Kante missed Chelsea FC’s 2-0 win over Brighton at the weekend due to a minor hamstring injury.
The midfielder has been struggling with a string of injuries this season but he made his comeback with a brilliant performance in the 2-1 loss to Liverpool FC last weekend.
Kante will now be hoping to hold down a regular spot in the first team under Lampard as he looks to help Chelsea FC challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
The midfielder sat out Saturday’s home victory against Brighton and Hove Albion due to a minor hamstring complaint.
Lampard has now revealed that it was him who didn’t want to take the risk and play him on Saturday – but the Chelsea FC boss revealed that he could be in contention to feature when the Blues travel to Lille in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Speaking at his post-match news conference at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, Lampard said of Kante: “I spoke to N’Golo about it and I didn’t want to take the risk.
“He’s so important for us but it’s been difficult for him to get going because of the break-up of his pre-season, with his injury carried over from last season.
“It wasn’t right to risk it today but he could have a chance for Lille.”
Chelsea FC are looking to pick up their first points in the Champions League this season after they suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Valencia in their group opener last time out.
