Kepa Arrizabalaga has revealed that David De Gea offered him some advice about life in England ahead of his transfer to Chelsea FC this summer.
Kepa moved to Stamford Bridge from Athletic Bilbao after the Blues opted to sell Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper has been settling in well to life under new manager Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge and he has started all eight of Chelsea FC’s Premier League games so far this season.
De Gea has earned a reputation as one of the world’s top goalkeepers since his move to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid back in 2011.
And the new Chelsea FC signing has revealed how a conversation with the Manchester United goalkeeper helped to reassure him that a move to England was a smart choice for him.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Kepa said: “Every player settles into a new league in different ways. David is a team-mate with the national team and we get on really well.
“When I signed for Chelsea, he gave me some advice, telling me a bit about how it was for him when he came here.
“Of course, he has been here for years now and is playing at a fantastic level. We were at the World Cup together and had a good chat about the differences between Spanish and English football.
“It’s a good thing to interact with a top goalkeeper who has so much experience in the Premier League.
“You need a little time, the usual sort of time it takes to get to know your team-mates and the league itself, but it’s all good generally, I’m very happy.”
Kepa helped Chelsea FC to keep a clean sheet on Sunday as the Blues claimed a 3-0 win over Southampton at St Mary’s in the Premier League.
The Blues are currently in second place in the Premier League table and level on points with both Liverpool FC and Manchester City as the race for the title hots up.
De Gea, meanwhile, helped Manchester United to claim a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday as Jose Mourinho’s men climbed up into eighth place.
The two Spanish goalkeepers will go head to head after the international break when their two sides do battle in the Premier League.
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action with a crunch clash against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge after the international break on Saturday 20 October.
The Blues have been in impressive form since Sarri’s appointment back in July, with the west London side having won six and drawn two of their opening eight Premier League games.
