Andy Townsend lavished praise on Eden Hazard for his stunning winner in Chelsea FC’s 2-1 win against Liverpool FC at Anfield in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Liverpool FC and Chelsea FC took part in a dress rehearsal for their Premier League clash this weekend as Jurgen Klopp’s side looked to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.
Daniel Sturridge netted his ninth goal in nine League Cup games to break the deadlock in the second half after Chelsea FC had dominated the opening 45 minutes.
However, the Blues responded through Emerson Palmieri’s close range finish from Ross Barkley’s free-kick before Hazard netted a sensational solo goal to seal a narrow win.
Hazard managed to weave his way past three defenders before the Belgian star fired past his compatriot Simon Mignolet with five minutes to go in the cup clash at Anfield.
Former Chelsea FC defender Townsend lavished praise on Hazard for his brilliant winner to seal the west London side’s place in the League Cu fourth round.
“That is a stunning, stunning goal,” Townsend told BBC Sport.
“He has been superb for Chelsea.
“He has burst on to the scene with matchwinning brilliance and that is why he is rated with the best players in the world.”
Liverpool FC will make the trip to Chelsea FC in their next Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
The Blues are in third spot in the Premier League table.
