Frank Lampard has lavished praise on Reece James after his impressive performance in his first Premier League start for Chelsea FC this weekend.
The 19-year-old played the full 90 minutes as he helped Chelsea FC to claim a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic in the second half helped Lampard’s men to claim the three points and make it six wins in a row in the Premier League.
James had made three appearances from the bench in the top flight this season but he was handed his first Premier League start by Lampard for the visit of the Eagles.
The teenager produced a confident display at right-back as he helped the Blues to claim all three points and maintain their good form heading into the international break.
Speaking after the game, Lampard revealed his delight at the way he performed and helped to keep Wilfried Zaha quiet during the Premier League clash.
Lampard told his post-match news conference: “Reece was fantastic against one of the best wingers in the league. One v one, Zaha is a real threat, especially on the counter-attack.
“Reece dealt with most of those situations and he also joined in on the attack.
“You can see how comfortable he is with the ball at his feet and his delivery and passing. I was pleased and I trust in Reece.
“Out of all the younger players who have been getting their chance this year, he’s had his injury earlier in the season and has got fit that little bit later, but he’s been training at a level and coming on at a level where he deserved minutes today. So he did brilliantly.”
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Manchester City on 23 November.
The Blues are aiming to keep their spot in the top four after having finished third under Maurizio Sarri last term.
