Stan Collymore: Why Arsenal shouldn’t appoint Jose Mourinho

Stan Collymore doesn’t believe that Jose Mourinho is the right man for Arsenal.

Unai Emery has been finding himself under increasing pressure at The Emirates in recent weeks following his side’s stuttering form.

Indeed, the Gunners are down in fifth place in the Premier League table and have only won one of their last five games in the top flight to leave them six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea FC.

Emery will be hoping to trigger a turnaround at The Emirates on Saturday when his side travel to Leicester City in the Premier League looking to claim a vital three points.

Mourinho has been touted as a possible replacement for Emery should Arsenal part company with the Spanish head coach.

However, former Liverpool FC star Collymore has clearly warned against the Gunners making a move to bring in Mourinho.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mirror, Collymore said: “Those Arsenal fans who think the club should axe Unai Emery to bring in Jose Mourinho must be daft.

“Hiring The Special One would be akin to hiring a bulldozer and waving it into the Emirates.

“He is no longer the Mourinho of 2004 who blew into Chelsea and wowed us all.

“He is the guy who uses TV when he’s out of work to portray himself as clever, intelligent and incisive — all the things he was but isn’t anymore.

“The pitch doesn’t lie and Mourinho hasn’t created an exciting football team for a decade, so why on earth do Arsenal fans think he is the answer?

“If they want to win a Europa League or FA Cup — something, anything — then, yes, he could do that for him.

“But the sacrifice would be that they’d be ripping up 15 years’ worth of work in getting them to play the way they do.

“All you’d get from Mourinho is the type of football he played at Manchester United: reactive, stodgy and slow, laced with big lumps comparatively speaking when you look at the lads Liverpool and Manchester City play with.”

Arsenal are looking to try and break back into the top four this season after they finished in fifth place in the Premier League last term.
