Frank Lampard has confirmed that N’Golo Kante is contention to start for Chelsea FC when the Blues take on Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues midfielder has been gradually working his way back to full fitness for the west London side after having struggled with a string of injuries in the first part of the campaign.
Kante played the full 90 minutes as he helped Chelsea FC to claim a 2-1 win over Lille in the Champions League in midweek.
The midfielder is now in contention to start once again as the Blues prepare for their trip to Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
Lampard provided a positive update on Kante at his pre-match news conference, but he stopped short of confirming that he will definitely be starting the game.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday, Lampard said: “It’s something we’ll have to watch over the next 24, 48 hours to make sure he’s OK.
“All the players are on a semi-recovery programme after the Lille game but it’s also the fact he hasn’t played much.
“In terms of the injury, he’s fine and there was no fallout with that from the Lille game so it’s just about making sure he’s fit and ready, which is a call for me to make.”
Kante has made a total of three Premier League appearances so far this season, scoring one goal in the top flight for the Blues.
The west London side head into Sunday’s game looking to make it back to back wins in the Premier League for the first time this season.
