Michael Owen is backing Tottenham Hotspur to progress to the League Cup fourth round thanks to a resounding win at Colchester United on Tuesday night.
Spurs will be eager to make progress in the Carabao Cup as Mauricio Pochettino looks to end his wait for a trophy at the north London side since his appointment in 2014.
Tottenham suffered a 2-0 loss to Liverpool FC in the Champions League final last season as Pochettino narrowly missed out on becoming the first Spurs boss to win the European Cup.
The Lilywhites have managed to win just two of their opening seven games in all competitions at the start of the season following victories over Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.
However, Pochettino’s side have suffered defeats by Newcastle United and Leicester City, while drawing with Manchester City, Arsenal and Olympiacos.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Tottenham to win by three goals or more against League Two side Colchester United in the League Cup third round on Tuesday night.
“Back-to-back wins for Colchester United in League Two, but it is hard to make a case for the U’s despite the fact that Spurs lost the lead and all three points at the King Power Stadium at the weekend,” Owen told BetVictor.
“Mauricio Pochettino has a deep and talented squad at his disposal and will have several players desperate for the opportunity to show the manager that they are ready to step up to the plate if, and when, required.”
Tottenham have finished in the Premier League’s top four in the last four seasons under Pochettino.
Spurs have managed to reach the League Cup final and the Champions League final since the Argentinian’s appointment.
However, Tottenham lost to Chelsea FC in the League Cup showpiece in 2014 before a 2-0 defeat by Liverpool FC in the Champions League final last term.
