Charlie Nicholas is backing Chelsea FC to make a winning start to their Champions League campaign against Valencia on Tuesday night.
The Blues warmed up for their first Champions League game under Frank Lampard with an impressive 5-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Saturday.
England Under-21 international Tammy Abraham scored his first hat-trick for the west London side to help Chelsea FC record their second victory of the top-flight season.
Chelsea FC lost to Liverpool FC in the Uefa Super Cup in Istanbul last month after Abraham missed his spot-kick effort in the penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw.
Abraham will be eager to prove that he has both Champions League and Premier League pedigree after his prolific start to the English top-flight season under Lampard.
Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas is backing Chelsea FC to edge to a 1-0 win against Valencia in their group-stage opener at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
“Tammy Abraham’s goals are gigantic but Mason Mount’s performances have been impressive. England U21 players have scored all 11 Premier League goals thus far which is remarkable,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“I thought they would be in trouble at Wolves but I was wrong. They have good energy and good pace up front. It is an expansive way of playing for Frank Lampard.
“Valencia sacked their manager and I do not see them being as flamboyant. They will try to counter-attack which will make it hard for Abraham and Mount to understand.”
Chelsea FC manager Lampard was part of the only Blues team to win the Champions League crown back in 2012.
Their run to glory in the 2011/12Champions League featured two games against Valencia in the group stage.
Lampard scored in a 1-1 draw at Mestalla on matchday two before the English club won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on matchday six, their sole home success against Valencia.
