Frank Lampard says N’Golo Kante is still struggling with an ankle issue as he bids to return to action for Chelsea FC.
The French midfielder has been out of action for most of the season and has been limited to just two appearances for the west London side so far this term.
Kante missed Chelsea FC’s trip to Wolves on Saturday with the problem as he continues to work on his rehabilitation at the west London club’s training ground.
Lampard was quizzed about the France international’s fitness before the trip to Wolves and the Blues boss revealed that they are hoping to have him back in action shortly.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference, Lampard said: “N’Golo is not fit yet.
“He still has issues with his ankle and the medical team are working with him.
“He’s in a bit of a transitional period now where we’re trying to get him on the pitch and he’s doing some physical work but this game comes too soon for him.”
Chelsea FC will return to Champions League action on Tuesday night when they host Valencia at Stamford Bridge in their group stage opener.
The Blues are aiming to try and maintain their position in the top four this season after they finished third and won the Europa League under Maurizio Sarri last term.
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Sunday next weekend when they host Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool FC side at Stamford Bridge.
