Gary Neville says Daniel James has made an unbelievable start to his Manchester United career.
The Red Devils signed the promising but inexperienced Wales international in a £17m deal from Championship outfit Swansea City in the summer transfer window.
James featured in the Manchester United team throughout their pre-season campaign to earn a place on the bench for the visit of Chelsea FC in their Premier League opener.
The 21-year-old came off the bench to score in Manchester United’s 4-0 victory over the Europa League winners to make a brilliant start to his Old Trafford career.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rewarded the Welsh youngster with a starting spot in the Manchester United team for their 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.
James impressed on the wing with his pace but the summer signing couldn’t inspire the Red Devils to a first victory over Wolves in four attempts in the past 12 months.
Former Manchester United defender Neville spoke in glowing terms about James following his performances in the opening two games of the Premier League season.
“One thing he needs is space to run into,” Neville told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports. “The big challenge for him is how does he cope when teams are playing deep, when there are five spread across the back.
“If he gets one on one it is obscene pace he’s got. You would not want to play against him.
“He makes six, seven, eight yards in the space of 25 yards.
“The quality is decent when he gets there, it was an unbelievable start for him against Chelsea.”
Manchester United will take on Crystal Palace in their next Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils are looking to improve upon their sixth-placed finish last term.
