Manchester United remain optimistic about signing Harry Maguire from Leicester City this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the Red Devils have “renewed optimism” that they will be able to seal a deal for the England defender ahead of their local rivals Manchester City.
The same report says that talks between the two clubs are ongoing, and Leicester’s valuation of £85m is the main stumbling block, with the Red Devils hoping to do a deal closer to £75m.
Maguire, it is claimed in the same story, initially indicated that he would prefer a move to City, but the Citizens do not want to bid that high for the 26-year-old defender.
Manchester United reportedly have offered to include players in the same deal, but Leicester City would prefer a straight cash move.
The defender has earned rave reviews for his performances for Leicester and England in recent months.
Maguire scored three goals in 31 Premier League appearances for the Foxes last season.
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season as they missed out on Champions League qualification.
