Fabinho has admitted that Virgil van Dijk’s defending makes the Liverpool FC midfielder laugh.

The Netherlands international was voted the PFA player of the year last season after Liverpool FC finished with the best defensive record in the Premier League ahead of Manchester City.

With Van Dijk’s help, Liverpool FC only conceded 22 times in 38 games in the Premier League as the Reds finished in second place and a point behind champions Manchester City.

Indeed, Liverpool FC goalkeeper Alisson Becker finished with more clean sheets than any other shot-stopper in the Premier League last term, thanks in part to Van Dijk.

Van Dijk managed to bring the best out of his Liverpool FC team-mates Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip throughout the 2018-19 season.

The Dutch centre-half finished his first full season at Liverpool FC as a Champions League winner after the Reds were 2-0 winners against Tottenham Hotspur.

Van Dijk was named of man of the match in Madrid as the Liverpool FC record signing managed to keep Harry Kane quiet.

Speaking about Van Dijk’s impact at Liverpool FC to SportsWitness on Globo’s Hoje Sim Podcast, Fabinho said:

“No-one beats him in the air. And I think he’s now gone 64 games without being dribbled past.

“He’s fast. And it’s funny that it seems like he doesn’t have to make much effort to run. He does it that way, like a big guy, and he easily gets to the ball.

“Balls in the air are funny. The ball comes and we just hear him shouting ‘VIRG!’. And you can let it pass, whoever the attacker is.

“Against Manchester (United), he impressed me. We were going to play against Romelu Lukaku. I thought ‘hey Lukaku has his size, let’s see if he will hold up’.

“My God. Every air ball, it was ‘VIRG!’, he would run over. You hear ‘VIRG!’, you get out of the way, because he will come running over.”

Liverpool FC signed Van Dijk in a £75m deal from Southampton in the 2018 January transfer window as the Reds made the Dutchman the most expensive defender in the world.
