Manchester United are confident that they can win the race to sign Leicester City defender Harry Maguire, according to a report in England.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Leicester want £80m for the England international after his impressive performances for club and country over the past 12 months.
The same article states that Manchester City are willing to bid around £50m, but Manchester United are prepared to make an offer much closer to Leicester’s asking price.
According to the same story, Maguire would prefer to move to the Premier League champions this summer but the Red Devils are optimistic that the former Hull defender can be tempted into moving to Old Trafford.
The Daily Mail goes on to say that Solskjaer is looking to sign young domestic talent in the summer transfer window – and Maguire would fit the bill.
Manchester United confirmed their first signing of the summer last week after Wales international Daniel James completed a £17m move to Manchester United from Championship side Swansea City.
The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a place in the Champions League for the fourth time in six seasons.
Manchester United haven’t won a major trophy in the past two seasons under Jose Mourinho or Solskjaer.
