Liverpool FC are one of six clubs keen on signing Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Reds are keen on a deal to bring the Dutch centre-half to Anfield as they look to bolster their options at the back this summer.
However, it is suggested that the Reds would have to “tear up” their wage structure if they are to land De Ligt this summer from Ajax.
It is claimed in the same story that the 19-year-old’s controversial agent Mino Raiola is at the centre of a bidding war between Liverpool FC, Manchester City and four other clubs this summer.
The same story says that Liverpool FC would have to make De Ligt the highest paid player in their history to land him this summer – even ahead of the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
According to the same article, Manchester United are prepared to offer the defender £236,000 a week and Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to go even higher and offer £256,000 per week.
Salah currently earns around £200,000 a week and Van Dijk around £150,000 at Liverpool FC – and it is suggested that signing De Ligt and placing him on huge wages would be “inviting” dressing-room trouble at Anfield.
Liverpool FC won their first major trophy under Jurgen Klopp last weekend when they claimed a 2-0 win over Tottenham in the Champions League final.
