Jose Mourinho has claimed that there is more pressure on Arsenal than Chelsea FC heading into Wednesday night’s Europa League final showdown.
The Gunners will take on the Blues in Baku on Wednesday night as they bid to win a trophy in Unai Emery’s first campaign in charge at The Emirates.
Arsenal are looking to lift the trophy and also secure a route into next season’s Champions League after Emery’s men finished in fifth place in the Premier League to miss out on a top-four finish.
Chelsea FC, meanwhile, have already sealed their spot in the Champions League for next season after they finished third in the Premier League in Maurizio Sarri’s first campaign in charge.
And former Chelsea FC boss Mourinho has claimed that there is more pressure on Arsenal than the Blues because Champions League qualification is on the line.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports News, Mourinho said: “There is more pressure for Arsenal than for Chelsea because they play the entire season in a game.
“There is a place in the Champions League, many millions … That is why they have more pressure.”
He continued: “I am sorry for the fans of Chelsea and Arsenal who can not be in Baku to support their teams.”
Arsenal endured a mixed first season under Emery following his appointment as Gunners boss last summer.
The north London side strung together some impressive form but their results tailed off towards the end of the campaign.
Chelsea FC reached the League Cup final but ended up losing to Manchester City in the showpiece earlier in the campaign.
