Dejan Lovren has lifted the lid on Jurgen Klopp’s inspiring pre-match team talk after Liverpool FC were 4-0 winners against FC Barcelona on Tuesday night to book their place in the Champions League final.
Liverpool FC looked to be heading out of the competition at the semi-final stage following a 3-0 loss to FC Barcelona at Camp Nou last week.
Divock Origi, who was one of two replacements for Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, broke the deadlock in the seventh minute with a close-range finish.
Liverpool FC substitute Georginio Wijnaldum scored twice in two minutes with a well-placed finish and a powerful header to complete the comeback.
Origi then doubled his tally with the decisive goal in the tie when the Belgian striker was alert to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s quick corner to seal a 4-0 win.
Lovren, who was an unused substitute in the Champions League semi-final clash, spoke about Klopp’s rousing speech before the second leg.
“Congratulations to Klopp,” Lovren told Liverpool’s website.
“Before the game he did an amazing speech.
“It was something brilliant and I think he lifted us so high. It was just ‘Believe! Put it in your mind that we can do it’. It was something that we’ve never heard before.
“He said: ‘Boys, believe. One or two goals, even if we don’t score in the first 15, 20 minutes, believe in the 65th, 66th, 67th minute that we can score, and then with Anfield behind us, trust me guys, we can do it.
“‘We did it once against Dortmund, we can do it tonight. Just show f******* balls tonight.’ And we did it!”
Liverpool FC will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final in Madrid on Saturday 1 June.
The Merseyside outfit will switch their attention back to the Premier League on Sunday afternoon when Liverpool FC take on Wolves in their final fixture of the season.
The Reds need Manchester City to drop points at Brighton to win the Premier League title.
