Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that he wants Manchester United to “attack quickly” next season.
The Red Devils are bound to be linked with a host of players ahead of the summer transfer window as Solskjaer looks to put his stamp on the team.
Manchester United have endured a challenging season following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal back in December following a particularly poor run of form.
Solskjaer managed to revive Manchester United’s fortunes for a couple of months but the Red Devils regressed to lose eight of their last 11 games in all competitions.
Manchester United have fallen a long way behind Premier League title challengers Manchester City and Liverpool FC to highlight the gap between the top two and Solskjaer’s side.
The Norwegian coach will be eager to add new players to his squad this summer that are capable of playing in the style that Solskjaer envisages for Manchester United.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference about his vision for the club ahead of Manchester United’s clash against Huddersfield Town on Sunday afternoon, Solskjaer said:
“What’s the best style? At Man United, it’s to attack quickly.
“It’s playing forward, running forward, chasing back, winning the ball back. I’d love and like to get to a set system, but it hasn’t worked that way.
“You see the teams that get two or three years together. They know each other. The relationships between the right side, left side, the centre-backs.
“As a football manager or coach, you know that the more time you get to work on relations, the better it will be, because then you’re a step ahead all the time instead of, at the moment, we’ve been reacting too much to the opposition and we want to get to a shape both on and off the ball that we’re comfortable with.”
Manchester United suffered a 4-0 aggregate loss to FC Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals last month.
The Red Devils were beaten by Wolves in the FA Cup quarter-finals to fall short in cup competitions this season.
