Gary Neville admits David De Gea is going through a tough spell in his Manchester United career after the goalkeeper’s mistake in their 1-1 draw with Chelsea FC on Sunday evening.
The Spain international was criticised for his performance in Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the derby mid-week after he made poor attempts to stop both goals.
De Gea, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid throughout the Premier League season, was at fault in Manchester United’s 3-0 loss to FC Barcelona in the Champions League earlier this month.
Manchester United made a brilliant start to the Premier League clash on Sunday when Juan Mata broke the deadlock from close range.
However, Chelsea FC were level minutes before half-time when David De Gea couldn’t hold onto Antonio Rudiger’s strike and Marcos Alonso finished from close range.
Former Manchester United defender Neville was left staggered by De Gea’s latest error.
“I don’t know what to say,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“He is having a nightmare of a time. Well done to Alonso. Bailly, Herrera and Young don’t follow in. He does. What a time De Gea is having.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013, while the Red Devils have only finished in the top four on two occasions.
The Red Devils will take on Huddersfield at John Smith’s Stadium next weekend, while Chelsea FC will host Watford.
