Paul Merson is tipping Manchester City to get revenge for their Champions League exit by easing to a 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon.

The Citizens will welcome Spurs to The Etihad for the second time in a week following their Champions League quarter-final meeting on Wednesday night.

Manchester City were 4-3 winners in the second leg at Eastlands but Spurs progressed thanks to the away goal rules following a 1-0 victory in north London a week earlier.

Tottenham ended Manchester City’s hopes of securing an unprecedented quadruple after Spurs set up a semi-final meeting with impressive Dutch side Ajax.

Manchester City are in second place in the Premier League table and two points adrift of leaders Liverpool FC, although the Reds have played one game more than their title rivals.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson doesn’t expect Manchester City to be suffering a Champions League hangover when Tottenham make the second visit in a week.

“I can’t seen anything other than a Man City win,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“Spurs don’t have the biggest squad in the world and the other night will have taken a lot out of them. I think both teams changing things up will still result in a City win. It is not a matter of revenge.

“It is a strange one because if you would have asked them last week City would rather have won the Champions League and Liverpool the league. Now it could be the other way around.

“Tottenham could easily rest players for this game and then just make sure they beat Brighton. With their injuries, they need to start prioritising their games now, and look at what games they will win and which they are less likely to win.

“It is not every day they get to a Champions League semi-final. They will rest players after such a quick turnaround.”

Manchester City are looking to win successive Premier League titles for the first time in their history under Spanish head coach Pep Guardiola.

The Citizens have already won the League Cup this year after the defending Premier League champions beat Chelsea FC on penalties at Wembley.

Manchester City will take on Watford in the FA Cup showpiece next month.
