Michael Owen is backing Liverpool FC to secure a vital win at Southampton on Friday night.

The Merseyside outfit will make the long trip to St Mary’s in search of a 25th victory of the Premier League season.

Liverpool FC will hoist themselves above Manchester City and into top spot in the table should they manage to beat Southampton.

The Reds were 2-1 winners against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend thanks to Toby Alderweireld’s late own goal at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have managed to win their last three Premier League games to get their title challenge back on track.

Liverpool FC were 2-0 winners against Southampton at St Mary’s last season thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah.

And former Reds striker Owen is tipping Liverpool FC to be beating Southampton at both half-time and full-time in their Premier League meeting on Friday night.

“Liverpool face a tricky away trip here to St Mary’s where Southampton have already beaten Spurs and Arsenal this season,” Owen told BetVictor.

“The Saints are still involved at the foot but gave themselves some much needed breathing space with a 1-0 win at rivals Brighton.

“They now have a five-point cushion over the final relegation spot.

“The Reds know once again that three points are a must and may very well need to score at least twice as I fully expect the hosts to notch.”

Liverpool FC will move two points ahead of Manchester City with five games to go should Klopp’s side manage to beat Southampton.

Only Manchester City have managed to beat Liverpool FC in the English top flight this term after the Citizens were 2-1 winners at The Etihad back in January.

Liverpool FC are looking to win the Premier League crown for the first time in their history.
