Manchester United are preparing a bid for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez in the summer, according to a report.
ESPN is reporting that the Red Devils are interested in a deal to sign Niguez, who the Premier League side want to partner with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in the heart of midfield.
The same article states that Manchester United have regularly sent scouts to watch the Atletico Madrid playmaker since the early days of his professional career in 2013-14.
According to the same story, Niguez could command a club-record transfer fee for the Atletico star, who has a €150m contract release clause.
ESPN add that defending Premier League champions Manchester City are also keen on a swoop to sign another Atletico Madrid talent in the summer.
Manchester City are eager to sign Niguez’s Atletico team-mate Rhodri at the end of the season, according to the transfer story.
Niguez has scored four goals and has made one assist in 26 appearances in La Liga in the current campaign.
Manchester United could be in the market to sign a midfielder in the summer given that Ander Herrera and Juan Mata are on course to become free agents at the end of the season.
The Red Devils are in sixth place in the Premier League table with six games to go.
