Zinedine Zidane has insisted that he wants reported Manchester United target Raphael Varane to remain at Real Madrid.

The France international has been regularly linked with a move to Old Trafford over the past three or four seasons since Jose Mourinho took over the reins at Manchester United.

Even Mourinho’s dismissal at the end of 2018 hasn’t put an end to the speculation as the Red Devils look to strengthen an area of weakness in their squad in the summer.

Varane was recently touted as a potential Manchester United target to improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s options in central defence.

The Real Madrid defender’s brother has fuelled speculation by suggesting that Varane is eager to seek out a new challenge following eight seasons in the Spanish capital.

However, Real Madrid manager Zidane is eager to see Varane commit his future to los Blancos amid reports of a potential summer move.

“I don’t want a Madrid without Varane,” Zidane told Marca. “He’s a young player, he’s been here for eight years, he’s doing fine.

“There are many things that come out [in the press]. He didn’t say anything to me.

“He’s at the best club in the world and he knows it, he’s won a lot of things.”

Varane has won the Champions League title in the last three seasons with the Spanish giants.

The French defender has netted 12 goals in 268 games in all competitions during his eight years at The Bernabeu.

Manchester United lost 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night to pour cold water on their hopes of a top-four finish.

The Red Devils will return to Premier League action with a home clash against West Ham on Saturday 13 April.
