Chris Sutton admitted that Arsenal are going to miss Aaron Ramsey after his impressive display in the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Monday night.
The Wales midfielder is due to leave Arsenal on a free transfer and join Juventus at the end of the season after the Gunners opted not to renew his deal.
Ramsey was captain for the night on Monday and scored the north London side’s opener in the 30th minute with a smart finish in off the post.
Alexandre Lacazette then made it 2-0 in the 85th minute with a cool lofted finish to help the Gunners claim a win which moved them up to third place in the Premier League table.
Ramsey has been a consistent performer when called upon this season, and BBC Sport pundit Sutton has admitted that he cannot understand why the Gunners are letting him leave.
Speaking during BBC Radio 5 live‘s coverage of the game after Ramsey’s opener, Sutton said: “Ramsey is going to be sorely missed.
“It was a wonderful initial touch by him with the outside of his foot. He then sweeps the ball in off the far post.
“He knows what he was trying to do – it’s all about the execution and he gets it spot on.”
Ramsey was substituted in the 67th minute at The Emirates after picking up a knock.
After Lacazette’s goal, former Chelsea FC man Sutton then added: “Lacazette has looked sharp all evening – he just has to stay composed for the goal. It’s a wonderful finish.
“Arsenal are going above Spurs.”
Arsenal are next in Premier League action when they travel to Everton on Sunday afternoon.
The north London side have not finished in the top four for the last two seasons as they look for a route back into the Champions League.
They will take on Napoli in the Europa League quarter-finals next week as they aim to progress through to the last four of Europe’s elite club competition.
