Phil Neville has named five players Manchester United should look to target in the summer.
The Red Devils are bound to be linked with a host of different players in the summer transfer window as the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward looks to bolster their squad.
Manchester United have made significant improvements under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since the Norwegian coach took over the reins from Jose Mourinho back in December.
The interim manager has managed to rekindle the form of Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford since his appointment to bolster their chances of a top-four finish.
In doing so, Martial has decided to commit to a new long-term deal at Manchester United, while Pogba and Rashford appear to be happy at Old Trafford again after both previously being linked with an exit.
Manchester United still have some issues to address, with problems in defence and a lack of pace on the wings when Martial is absent.
Now, former Red Devils defender Neville has named five players who could improve the Manchester United team ahead of next season – Gareth Bale, Philippe Coutinho, Eric Dier, Raphael Varane and Joao Cancelo.
“Gareth Bale is ready-made,” Neville told Premier League Today on Sky Sports News.
“Ole has said he wants to buy a hungry player. I think [Jadon] Sancho is that hungry player. But Bale has won Champions Leagues and played at the top level.
“I don’t think wages are an issue at Manchester United. You are talking guaranteed quality who can play across the front line.”
Neville added: “The two signings in the back four would be Raphael Varane from Real Madrid and Joao Cancelo from Juventus.
“Cancelo, I worked with him at Valencia and have seen him at Juventus and I think he’s top drawer.
“Eric Dier as the holding midfield player and Philippe Coutinho, who there has been a bit of speculation about.
“You have to have British players in a title-winning team. [Ander] Herrera, Fred and [Scott] McTominay are part of the squad. [Nemanja] Matic, this season, has had a dip.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013, with a top-four finish proving a challenge for the Red Devils in recent seasons.
Solskjaer’s men will take on Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals next month.
