Robert Pires believes that Memphis Depay may be keen to re-join Manchester United in the future.
Depay failed to make much of an impact at Old Trafford after having signed for the Red Devils from PSV Eindhoven in June 2015.
He was eventually sold to Lyon in January 2017, and he has been a regular fixture in the first team at the French club.
Depay has scored six goals and made eight assists in 27 Ligue 1 appearances for Lyon this season.
Arsenal legend Pires believes that the 25-year-old has a point to prove in the Premier League and has suggested that he may be open to a transfer back to Manchester United in the future.
Speaking in an interview with bwin, Pires said: “I think Depay wants to come back to the Premier League and he feels he has unfinished business in England. He’s unhappy at Lyon and has already stated his ambitions to leave this summer for a big club in Europe.
“It didn’t work out for him at Manchester United and Depay is a very proud player. He perhaps feels he wasn’t given a chance to perform and earn the right to stay longer considering he was so young and showed glimpses of undoubted potential.
“Depay might want to return to Manchester United or he might be motivated to prove them wrong by performing for one of their rivals in the Premier League. It will be interesting to see what happens this summer.”
Manchester United, meanwhile, are currently preparing for their home clash against Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Red Devils are fifth in the Premier League table and two points behind Arsenal as they look to try and break back into the top four before the season is out.
Manchester United will take on FC Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals next month as they look to progress in Europe’s elite club competition.
