FC Barcelona are considering the possibility of selling Samuel Umtiti to Manchester United this summer, according to a report in England.
The Daily Mail is reporting that FC Barcelona are desperate to sign Netherlands international Matthijs de Ligt from Dutch side Ajax in the summer.
The same article states that the La Liga champions are willing to sacrifice Umtiti in order to get a deal for the highly-rated Dutch teenager over the line.
According to the same story, Umtiti’s uncertain future at Camp Nou has alerted Manchester United, who are keen to improve their defensive options this summer.
The Daily Mail goes on to add that Manchester United were rumoured to be sending scouts to watch Umtiti in action for France on Monday night.
However, the report does reveal the Red Devils’ concern about Umtiti’s persistent injury problems, which could prove a stumbling block to any potential deal.
Manchester United look set to be linked with a host of different centre-halves in the summer as vice-chairman Ed Woodward looks to tackle an area of weakness in his squad.
The Red Devils will return to Premier League action after the international break with a home clash against Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester United are in fifth place in the top-flight table.
