Michael Owen is backing Liverpool FC to extend their winning run against Manchester City to four games at Anfield on Sunday evening.
The Reds will host the defending Premier League champions this weekend in what is sure to be a firm test of their title credentials after a positive start to the season.
Liverpool FC have been talked up as a genuine contenders to win a first Premier League crown following some shrewd transfer business in the summer to strengthen Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
However, the Merseyside outfit have struggled with some alarmingly patchy form over the past week following two losses and one stalemate in three different competitions.
Liverpool FC lost 2-1 to Chelsea FC in the Carabao Cup third round at Anfield last week before Daniel Sturridge’s late equaliser rescued a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in the last round of Premier League games.
Klopp’s men were unable to hold on for a point in Naples on Wednesday night after Lorenzo Insigne punished the Liverpool FC defence with a 90th-minute winner in the Champions League.
Former England international Owen believes Liverpool FC will record their first win in four games against Pep Guardiola’s side in front of their supporters at Anfield on Sunday evening.
“You must go back to 2003 for the last time City won at Anfield and the Reds have already beaten City three times this year – twice in the Champions League and a famous 4-3 PL success back in January,” Owen told BetVictor.
“Liverpool have kept a clean sheet in their last eight PL home games and are unbeaten in their last 24 home league games. It promises to be another wonderful occasion and a great game between two top-quality sides.
“The Premier League will not be won at Anfield on Sunday, but the winners will go into the international break at least two points clear in the table.
“I expect to see another home win for the Reds.”
While Liverpool FC have been on a poor run of form in the past week, the Reds can take confidence from their recent record against the Citizens.
The Merseyside outfit have won their last three meetings with Manchester City, starting with a thrilling 4-3 victory over the champions elect at Anfield back in January.
Liverpool FC followed up their Premier League success with a 3-0 home win in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, before goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino sealed a 2-1 win at The Etihad.
The Reds are unbeaten in their last 17 home games against Manchester City following 15 victories and two draws.

Indeed, Nicolas Anelka was the last Manchester City player to score a winning goal at Anfield when the France international secured a 2-1 win in stoppage time.
The Citizens will be hoping to avoid a City a fourth loss to the same opponent within a calendar year for the third time in their history.
