Danny Murphy has heaped praise on Georginio Wijnaldum for his impressive performances in the Liverpool FC team.
The Netherlands international has been a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s starting line up in the current campaign to limit the playing time of summer signings Naby Keita and Fabinho.
Wijnaldum has racked up 610 minutes of first-team football in the Premier League so far this season, missing a mere 20 minutes of top-flight action this term.
The 27-year-old scored Liverpool FC’s opening goal in a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley to help the Merseyside outfit secure a significant victory.
Wijnaldum has completed 92.5 per cent of his attempted passes so far this season, highlighting the Netherlands international’s consistency in the middle of the park.
The Dutch star has had little rest between Premier League games given Jurgen Klopp started both of Liverpool FC’s Champions League fixtures against Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli.
Former Liverpool FC midfielder Murphy believes Wijnaldum has been an unsung hero in the Premier League for Klopp’s side this season.
Murphy told Sky Sports: “I think Wijnaldum’s gone under the radar, he’s been absolutely sensational, kept his place in a midfield where they’ve spent over £100million.
“And he’s actually played holding role and in an attacking role, I think he’s been a real plus this season.”
Wijnaldum moved to Liverpool FC in a £25m deal from Newcastle United in the 2016 summer transfer window following one seasons at the Mapgies outfit in 2015-16.
The Netherlands international scored a respectable nine goals in 38 games in the Premier League to enjoy a relatively successful first season at St James’ Park.
Wijnaldum has been a mainstay of the Liverpool FC side since his move to the Anfield outfit from Newcastle, despite the intense competition for a spot in the middle of the park.
The Dutch talent netted nine goals in 101 games in all competitions during two and a half seasons at the 18-time Englush champions under charismatic German head coach Klopp.
Wijnaldum scored a vital goal in Liverpool FC’s 4-2 loss to AS Roma in the Champions League semi-final to help the Merseyside outfit secure a place in the final.
The former Feyenoord midfielder started in the Champions League final but Wijnaldum was powerless to prevent Liverpool FC from suffering a 3-1 loss to La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Liverpool FC will take on defending Premier League champions Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday evening.
