Paul Merson believes Arsenal will survive a big test and secure three points against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

The Gunners have managed to turnaround their start to the season under Arsene Wenger’s replacement Unai Emery.

The north London side lost to defending champions Manchester City and bitter rivals Chelsea FC in their opening two Premier League games.

However, Emery has orchestrated a five-game winning streak to help the Emirates Stadium outfit to hoist themselves up to fifth place in the table.

Arsenal were 2-0 winners against Watford at The Emirates last weekend courtesy of an own goal from Craig Cathcart and Mesut Ozil’s strike.

The Gunners have also beaten West Ham United, Newcastle United, Cardiff City and Everton to show signs of progression under the Spanish head coach.

Emery’s side are in a strong position in their Europa League group following successive victories over Vorskla and Qarabag.

Former Arsenal playmaker Merson believes the Gunners will come out on top in a high-scoring game against the Cottagers on Sunday afternoon.

“Fulham are a decent side at home so this will be another big test for Arsenal,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“Fulham have to win their home games because it will be a struggle for them on the road. They’ll rely on winning at Craven Cottage to stay in the Premier League.

“Fulham will have a go against Arsenal, who are also an open, attacking side. I think Arsenal have been a touch fortunate with their results. they’ve won all these games on the trot but if you break it down they’ve not really been that impressive.

“It could’ve easily gone the other way so Fulham will feel like they’ve got a chance, but in the end, Unai Emery’s side will edge it.”

Arsenal are in fifth position in the Premier League and a point behind their bitter north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the table.

The Gunners will be hoping to secure a return to the Champions League this season thanks to a top-four spot after two bleak years under Arsene Wenger.

Emery, though, has looked to implement a new style and a new formation at Arsenal in the opening months of his reign at the Emirates Stadium.

The Arsenal manager didn’t hesistate to recruit new players in the summer transfer window following the addition of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira, Sokratis Papastathopoulous and Matteo Guendouzi.

The north London side were 3-1 winners against Fulham in their last Premier League meeting at Craven Cottage in August 2013 when Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud got on the score sheet.

The Cottagers haven’t beaten Arsenal in west London since January 2012 when Bobby Zamora scored a last-minute winner after Steve Sidwell cancelled out Laurent Koscielny’s opener.

Arsenal have won 36 of their 54 games against Fulham to the dominate the head-to-head between the two rivals.
