Jamie Carragher has insisted that Mohamed Salah is performing “OK” for Liverpool FC this season despite his lack of goals so far in a red shirt.
The Egypt international was one of European football’s top performing players last term as he fired home 44 goals in all competitions in his first season at Liverpool FC since his move from AS Roma last summer.
Salah has made a slow start to the new campaign by his high standards, with the 26-year-old having netted three times in seven Premier League outings so far.
The attacker will be hoping to help fire Liverpool FC to a Champions League victory over Napoli on Wednesday night.
However, despite the forward’s somewhat slower start to the new season, Liverpool FC legend Carragher has insisted that he is expecting to see good things from Salah as the season pans out – and that his mini-goal drought is not serious.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “He’s scored three goals which is not a million miles away from what it was last season and it’s not a bad start.
“The Expected Goals [statistic] shows you he is still getting a lot of chances.
“We know from last season that he misses chances. Even though he scored a lot of goals, he misses big chances.
“That lad will always score goals because he still makes the runs in the right positions.
“I’ve got no problem with how many goals he’s scored or what he’s like around the box. He is doing OK.”
Most Liverpool FC fans would agree that Salah has not been quite at the same level he hit last season, when he played a key role in helping the Reds to reach the Champions League final and finish fourth in the Premier League table.
However, his deadly partnership with the likes of Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane up front is sure to flourish at some point this season as Liverpool FC look to establish themselves as one of the main contenders for the Premier League title.
The Reds have been in good form in the top flight so far this season, with Klopp’s men having won six of their opening seven games.
That has left them second in the Premier League table and level on points with Manchester City, who are currently ahead on goal difference.
The Merseyside outfit will look to get back to winning ways in the Premier League next weekend when they take on Manchester City in a crunch top of the table clash at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
