Rio Ferdinand sends message to Jose Mourinho after Man United loss

Rio Ferdinand accused Manchester United’s players of lacking heart and desire after the Red Devils crashed to a disappointing 3-1 loss to West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday.

It has been a stuttering start to the new campaign for Jose Mourinho’s men, with the Red Devils having slipped to three defeats already in their first seven Premier League games.

Manchester United were also knocked out of the League Cup at the third round stage by lower league side Derby County last week to further heap pressure on Mourinho.

The Red Devils were well beaten by Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham United out fit at the London Stadium on Saturday lunchtime as Manchester United slumped to yet another defeat in the top flight.

And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was not at all impressed by the apparent lack of fight shown by the Red Devils players in east London this weekend.

Speaking in an interview with BT Sport after Saturday’s loss, Ferdinand said: “If you come to a place like West Ham you’ve got to put them under pressure.

“You don’t get lots of time on the ball. You’ve got to work hard and work for the shirt. You’ve got to grind and you’ve got to work hard.

“They didn’t – and that’s the most disappointing thing for me.”

Manchester United will now attempt to get their campaign back on track when they take on Valencia in the Champions League at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils were aiming to be one of the main contenders for the Premier League title this season after they finished second and with no trophy last term.
