Unai Emery has insisted that he is not concerned that Aaron Ramsey’s contract situation could affect his form for Arsenal.
The 27-year-old’s situation at The Emirates has been a source of debate over the last few days after he entered into the final year of his contract at the north London club.
Ramsey is thought to be in talks with Arsenal about the possibility of extending his contract at the north London club, but there has not yet been any official progress in talks between the two parties.
As things stand, Ramsey could leave Arsenal on a free transfer at the end of the season if the north Londoners are unable to tie him down to a new deal.
If it seems that the Wales international is not going to sign a new deal, Arsenal could look to offload the midfielder for a fee in the January transfer window rather than risk losing him for nothing.
However, Emery has insisted that he is not concerned about the prospect of Ramsey’s contract situation affecting his performances on the pitch for the Gunners.
Speaking at a news conference before Arsenal’s clash with Watford on Saturday, Emery said: “I think no [it won’t change his performance].
“I want the best preparation for him and his mentality and his quality. He will be ready to give us his best performance to help us to win.”
He continued: “In football, for many years, I have seen the same situation because for players the career is short. They are professional for 10-15 years, not more usually.
“The players need to take the best out these years for his future and his family.
“The best for us, for him and everyone is to take each match and do your best, to show every supporter their best quality.”
Arsenal are aiming to break back into the top four this season after they finished sixth and without a trophy last term.
