John Hartson insists Daniel Sturridge can still be a ‘great player’ for Liverpool FC this season.

Sturridge has had an impressive start to the new season despite finding his playing time limited at Anfield, scoring two goals in five appearances – just one of those as a starter.

The 29-year-old joined Liverpool in 2013 from Chelsea and has since gone on to appear over 130 times for the club, scoring 65 goals.

Liverpool FC are flying this term, already two points clear at the top of the Premier League table as the only team left with a 100 per cent record.

Liverpool FC’s Champions League victory against Paris Sanit Germain last week further proved their credentials as contenders for silverware and a 3-0 win against Southampton on Saturday ensured that Klopp’s men extended their winning run.

The former Celtic and West Ham striker insists that Sturridge could have a big role to play for Liverpool in the coming months.

Hartson told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Sturridge is in good form. If he can maintain his form, you’ve got a great player there.”

The English striker is in line for another starting berth against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, where supporters will be hoping the team can progress into the fourth round of the competition.

Klopp’s side will then travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday in the Premier League, which could be their toughest test to date against the unbeaten Londoners.

On his day, Sturridge is a top-class attacker with a superb eye for goal and if Liverpool continue to improve at their current rate, he will need to be ready to contribute as the fixtures begin to pile up in the coming weeks and months.
