Jamie Carragher believes that Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech is getting back to his best under new boss Unai Emery.
Cech picked up his first clean sheet of the new season on Sunday afternoon during a 2-0 win against Everton at The Emirates.
The Arsenal number one was in inspired form between the sticks and has maintained his high level of performance to help Emery’s men win five games on the bounce.
According to ex-Liverpool defender Carragher, Cech is playing like he did back in his prime at Chelsea.
Cech told Sky Sports: “I think Petr Cech in this first five or six games looks like the Petr Cech I remember at Chelsea in terms of the saves he makes, his starting positions and coming out at people’s feet.”
Next up for Arsenal is a home tie in the Carabao Cup against Brentford on Wednesday before another clash at The Emirates in the Premier League against Watford on Saturday.
Supporters will be expecting two more wins to extend the team’s winning run to seven as the fixtures start to pile up in all competitions.
If Cech can continue to produce the goods in goal then Arsenal will be in great shape for a top-four finish in the league and should also be considered contenders to win a cup competition this year.
Emery’s men are competing in the Europa League after the Gunners finished in sixth spot last season in the Premier League and they may have to make the competition a priority given the fact that the winners are granted entry into the Champions League.
At this rate, Arsenal could well end up in the European places but if not, the Europa League will be their insurance policy as Emery’s revolution continues at the Emirates.
