Rio Ferdinand lavished praise on Paul Pogba for his stunning goal in Manchester United’s 3-0 win against Young Boys on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils made the trip to Switzerland for their Champions League opener after losing 1-0 to Basel in the Uefa competition last term.

Manchester United made the breakthrough in the first half thanks to Pogba’s beautiful opener after the World Cup star exchanged passes with Fred before firing into the top corner.

The France international doubled the visitors’ lead from the penalty spot before his compatriot Anthony Martial extended Manchester United’s lead to three goals.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was impressed with Pogba’s excellent strike to break the deadlock.

Ferdinand wrote on Twitter: “Joke of a finish….. love it @paulpogba… will he make it no2?!!! Penalty!!!!”

Manchester United lost 2-1 to Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16 to make a premature exit from Europe’s premier club competition.

The Red Devils will take on Valencia at Old Trafford in their next Champions League fixture before games home and away against Juventus.

Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table last term to secure their best finish since the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

The Red Devils signed Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant in the 2018 summer transfer window.
