Jamie Carragher has advised Marcus Rashford to leave Manchester United in order to gain some important first-team football.

The England striker has found his starting opportunities at Old Trafford to be few and far between in recent months, with Romelu Lukaku clearly ahead of him in the pecking order under Jose Mourinho.

The 20-year-old is widely regarded as one of English football’s brightest young talents, but he has only started one of Manchester United’s four Premier League games so far this season.

Rashford will be hoping to earn a regular spot in the first team under Mourinho this season as he bids to help Manchester United challenge for the Premier League title.

However, Liverpool FC legend Carragher feels that Rashford is likely to have to look elsewhere if he wants to gain the regular starting spots he needs to develop his game.

Speaking to Sky Sports after England’s clash with Switzerland on Tuesday night, Carragher said: “I think so, yes [Rashford may have to leave Man United].

“In order to play centre-forward for Manchester United you’ve got to be world class.

“Rashford’s not world class yet. He might be at 23 or 24. So Rashford might have to move away to come back to a top team.”

Rashford will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action after the international break with a trip to Watford.

The Red Devils have won two and lost two of their opening four Premier League games so far this season to leave them six points behind leaders Liverpool FC.
